Second Brake

Booking websites for driving schools

A parent decides at 10pm that this is the week their kid learns to drive. Right now they leave a voicemail and wait for you to call back tomorrow — and a good number of them don't wait. We build the booking website for your school, on your own domain, with your own payment account, and we keep it running every day.

Rather see it first? Open the dashboard yourself — no signup, nothing to install — or look at a finished example: a school where each instructor has their own car or two instructors sharing a fleet. Then work out what the missed calls are costing you.

The same enquiry, two routes

10:04pm on a Tuesday

Nothing here is about a commission, because nobody is taking one from you. The number that moves is simpler than that: whether the lesson gets booked at all.

The gap is not the point. The evening is. Most of the parents who find you are not looking during your office hours — they are looking after dinner, once the kid is done with homework.

How many of those you actually lose is a number only you have. Put your own lesson price and your own missed calls into the calculator and it works out what the website has to earn back — our fee subtracted, no invented growth. For a small school with a quiet phone it may well come out against us, and it says so.

What you get

A website that also runs the schedule

Most booking software does not know what a driving lesson is. It knows appointments. A lesson takes an instructor and a car at the same time, for a length of time the student picks, out of hours that instructor actually works.

Book and pay, any hour

A parent picks the day, the length and the instructor, and pays by card. No account to create, no callback, no “we'll get back to you”.

One booking takes both

Book an instructor and their car is gone too, automatically. Two lessons can run at once if two instructors are working — and none can if only one is.

Working hours, not office hours

Each instructor has their own schedule. The site offers only the hours somebody is actually working, so it never sells a lesson you cannot teach.

Packages and hours left

Sell ten hours up front, and the site keeps the ledger. Students see what they have left; siblings can share a family package if you allow it.

Students book their own next lesson

Everyone who books gets a personal link. No password, no account — they open it, see their hours, and book or cancel without calling you.

Reminders before the lesson

Sent automatically to the student and the parent, in your school's own time zone. This is the part that moves the no‑show number.

Who showed up, and who didn't

Marked from the phone, at the curb. Without it you cannot show anyone — including yourself — what the no‑shows are actually costing.

Everything exports to CSV

Students, lessons, hours, packages. Whatever you keep your own records in, you keep it — without typing anything twice.

A dashboard you run yourself

Instructors, cars, prices, packages, hours. You change them; we are not a ticket you have to open to fix a typo.

How it works

You approve it before anything is yours to pay for

  1. Step 1

We build a demo of your school

From what is already public: your name, your photos, your lessons, your prices. You look at a working website, not a slide deck. This costs you nothing and commits you to nothing.

  2. Step 2

You tell us what is wrong with it

Prices, lesson lengths, which instructor drives which car, when each of them works. Two rounds of changes are in the setup fee; in practice it is usually one.

  3. Step 3

Domain and payment account, in your name

You buy the domain, you open the Stripe account. Both are yours from the first minute, which is the whole point — see below.

  4. Step 4

It goes live, and we keep it running

Hosting, updates, backups, security. Changes and support the same business day.

What is yours

If you leave, you take it with you

Every part of this that matters is registered in your name, not ours. That is not generosity — it is the only arrangement that makes the rest of the promises believable.

Your domain

yourschool.com

Bought on your card, in your name, at a registrar you choose. We configure it. If you leave, you point it somewhere else and nothing of yours moves.

Your payment account

Stripe, in your name

Parents pay you. The money lands in your Stripe balance and goes to your bank. It never passes through an account of ours, and there is no technical route by which it could.

Your students

Export any time

Names, lessons, hours, packages, attendance — all of it exports to CSV whenever you want, without asking us.

Not a listing on our site

yourschool.com, not us/yourschool

We are not a directory and we do not sell you traffic. Nobody comparison‑shops driving schools on a marketplace; they search for one near them and pick one that answers.

Pricing

One price, however many instructors

No bands, no per‑instructor charge and no percentage of a booking. A school with two instructors working full weeks is not worth less to us than one with six standing around, so we stopped pretending the headcount is the thing to charge for.

$290

One-time setup fee. Covers the design, loading your lessons, prices, instructors, cars and working hours, configuring the domain and the payment account, and two rounds of changes. The setup fee is invoiced once you have approved the website and is non-refundable; the subscription can be canceled at any time and is invoiced up to the current month.

The headline price is the annual one: you pay for ten months instead of twelve. Monthly exists for those who prefer it, and over a year works out 20 % more because it carries a good deal more admin. No minimum term either way — if you leave, we invoice up to the current month. Prices are in US dollars and are what you are invoiced: we add no sales tax and no VAT. The domain (about $12 a year) you pay directly to the registrar, in your own name. Stripe's processing fees are charged by Stripe and never pass through us.

What we do not sell

This is not your state compliance system

Driving instruction is a licensed trade and every state runs its own paperwork. We are not going to pretend a booking website solves that, because the first time it didn't you would be the one holding it.

Not included Certificates of completion, state reporting, DMV submissions, curriculum hour tracking for licensing purposes, instructor certification records.

What we do instead Everything the site records — every lesson, every student, every hour used, who showed up and who didn't — exports to CSV whenever you want. Whatever system your state requires, you feed it from that instead of typing it twice.

Why we say it here Because it is the first question in almost every conversation, and it is a much better answer before you have paid us than after.

What else you could do

Three honest options

We are not the only way to solve this, and two of the three are cheaper than us. Here is when each one is the right answer.

Generic scheduling software

The kind that books haircuts and dentist visits. Cheap, mature, and it will take a booking.

Where it stops: it does not know that a lesson needs an instructor and a car at once, it has no concept of a package of hours, and it does not build you a website — you still need somewhere for the parent to land.

Right answer if: you already have a website you like and one instructor with one car.

Full driving-school management systems

Built for this trade, and they go much further than we do: state reporting, certificates, curriculum hours, multi-branch payroll.

Where it stops: the price and the setup are built for schools several times your size, and most of them do not give you a public website at all.

Right answer if: you have more than a handful of instructors and the compliance paperwork is your real problem.

Us

A website with your brand on it that also runs the schedule, for $290 setup and $39/month. Instructors and cars, packages, reminders, attendance, CSV out.

Where it stops: we do not touch state compliance, and we say so above.

Right answer if: you have two to six instructors, no website worth the name, and a phone that rings after hours.

We have deliberately left prices off the other two columns. Their pricing changes, ours would be second‑hand by the time you read it, and a competitor's number quoted wrong is the fastest way to lose your trust. Look them up — if one of them fits you better, take it.

What the subscription covers

The part nobody quotes for

A website is not a thing you buy once. Most of what goes wrong with one goes wrong quietly, months later.

Hosting and speedServed from the data centre nearest the parent looking at it. No server for you to worry about, and nothing to renew.
Updates and securityPatched as part of the platform, not as a project you have to approve.
BackupsEvery published version kept, so a bad edit is undone rather than rebuilt.
ChangesNew lesson type, new instructor, price change, seasonal hours — you do those yourself in the dashboard. If you would rather we did it, we do it.
Email that arrivesConfirmations and reminders sent from your own domain, set up so they land in the inbox instead of spam.

Questions

The ones that come up every time

Do you take a cut of what parents pay?
No, and there is no technical route by which we could. Parents pay into your Stripe account directly. We invoice you a fixed amount and that is the entire commercial relationship.
We already have a website.
Then the question is whether a parent can book and pay on it at 10pm. If they can, you do not need us. If it is a page with a phone number and a contact form, the form is the part that loses you the booking.
What if two instructors share a car?
That is the normal case and it is handled. You say which cars exist and who drives what; booking one instructor takes their car out of the pool too. An instructor who always drives the same car can be locked to it, so when that car is in the shop the instructor is not offered either.
Can a student cancel on their own?
Yes, and you choose how long before the lesson that is free. A lesson cancelled the day before can be sold to somebody else; a student who is not sure whether they cancelled just doesn't turn up. You also choose whether a late cancellation and a no‑show use up an hour from their package.
Do students need an account?
No. Everyone who books gets a personal link by email — no password, nothing to reset, nothing for you to support. Someone who comes twenty times and then never again should not have to make an account.
What happens if I stop paying?
The website stops being served and your data exports to CSV. The domain and the Stripe account are yours and are untouched, because they were never ours. You point the domain somewhere else and nothing of yours moves.
How long until it is live?
The demo already exists before we contact you. From your first reply, live usually takes a few days — most of which is waiting on the domain and on Stripe verifying you, neither of which we can do for you.
Do you do the DMV paperwork?
No — see above. Everything exports to CSV so you feed whatever your state requires from that, but the compliance itself is yours and we are not going to claim otherwise.
